The skills for creating practical stairs from scratch has been honed from years of experience. We've learned the importance of using large single slabs for steps instead of smaller blocks which can move independently - ensuring that steps remain stable and settle evenly through Northern Ontario's freeze and thaw cycles.

It's important that each consecutive step is at a consistent height. One step in the middle that is either too high or too low becomes a tripping hazard. There is a minimum 5" and maximum 8" step height, and you need a step slope to shed water. Your contractor needs to be constantly checking heights for each installed step in order for the last step to fall in place.

Most contractors install simple coping stones with a tread depth of only 12". We install steps with at least 14" tread depth - giving you adequate area to plant your entire foot, with extra space for snow buildup on your boots. When stairs or landings exceed 24" in height, we can integrate aluminum railings, privacy walls, or flower beds to bridge the gap beautifully.
